Square Pegs
2002-12-30 · Runtime unavailable · ★ 5.0
Square Pegs was a Hong Kong television series 2003. The program's title is an abbreviated reference to the English idiomatic phrase "square peg in a round hole." The series was the runaway success of 2003, commanding a viewership of 3.5 million or roughly half of Hong Kong's population during the last week of its broadcast, and breaking TVB's ten-year ratings record. It also went on to win four awards for its two lead actors in the TVB 36th Anniversary Awards, and made both Roger Kwok and Jessica Hsuan household names in the territory.

Actresses and media stars read funny, sad, philosophical, and most importantly, lively monologues from modern parents with their worries, simple and complex questions and emotions at the same time. Monologues will draw a lot of recognizable pictures in front of the viewer: parents are making school crafts for a child at night, a mother gives her beloved child a coveted dance costume at the last moment before the performance, and a mother and daughter skip work and study to explain themselves together to their superiors and a strict class teacher. Viewers will also find funny and recognizable stories about how disturbing it is to wash in the bathroom while a child is watching a cartoon and how the first experience of motherhood differs from the third.
